This piece was inspired by @mackenziechilds and their whimsical take on checkers. Who knew checkers could be so enchanting that it pulls you into a wonderland of patterns? The more I explored, the more obsessed I became!

For this illustration, I wanted to tell a story. Meet the ultimate fan of checkers (the cat), thrilled to open their latest treasure for their collection—while someone (or something) is secretly watching. Owls? Rabbits? Of course! They’re fast, clever, and if I were a cat today, I’d be eager to catch them too!

On a technical note, I challenged myself to use values to create depth in the scene, making it feel immersive and alive. Huge thanks to all my professors who guided me throughout the process!
